The 4Ps of Marketing is a model for improving the components of your "marketing strategy," the way you bring a product or service to market. It helps you to define your marketing options in terms of price, product, advertising and platform so that your offer meets the needs or demand of a specific customer. The 4Ps are one way and probably the most well-known way of defining marketing strategy and were first published in 1960. Whether you have an established business or are just starting out, you should keep the essential question of the 4Ps in mind.

  • What needs or wants does it satisfy, and what does the customer want?

  • What features does it have to meet the needs? Are any features missing? Are there any features that the customer won’t use, which are unnecessary costs?

  • How and where will the customer use it?  How’s the experience? 

  • Size, color, smell, etc.?

  • Warranties?

  • What’s the difference between your products and the products and services of competitors?

Price
