As of November 2021, we have a world population of over 7.9 billion inhabitants, we have a few crises (Russian-Ukraine conflict & other violence in the world, Virus pandemic, poverty, inequality, etc.) that concern all of us and we need to address. The use of cannabis originated in central Asia or western China. Cannabis has been used for its alleged healing properties for millennia. The first documented case of its use dates back to 2800 BC when it was listed in Emperor Shen Nung’s (father of Chinese medicine) pharmacopeia. In various texts of the Indian Hindus, Assyrians, Israelis, Greeks, and Romans it is noted that cannabis was used to treat a vast array of different health problems, including arthritis, depression, inflammation, pain, lack of appetite, and asthma. William Brooke O’Shaughnessy introduced cannabis to western medicine after living in India. He wrote many uses including convulsions in children. In the early 1600s, the Virginia, Massachusetts, and Connecticut colonies required farmers to grow hemp, because of its vast advantages.
By the late 1800s cannabis extracts were sold in pharmacies and doctors’ offices throughout Europe and the USA to treat stomach problems and other ailments. Today the U.S. FDA has approved two drugs with THC in pill form, Marinol and Syndros, to treat nausea caused by cancer chemotherapy.

For millennia, the plant has been valued for other uses like for fiber and rope, as food , and for its psychoactive properties for religious and recreational use.
